Day 1 of my 30 Day Sugar Detox

Day 1 of the Sugar Detox

I have failed. Day bloody one and I have failed already.

I knew I was rubbish, but COME ON!! I started with great intentions, I ate a load of raw broccoli for breakfast (sounds gross maybe, but I love the stuff) along with ready cooked sliced chicken breast and cottage cheese. I felt full and satisfied until lunch, when I had more raw broccoli, more pre cooked chicken breast (from Tesco, by the way) and two soft boiled eggs, which I put in egg cups and use to dip my broccoli in.

I felt like a hero. I’m not going to lie, I was dreaming, fantasising and dribbling over thought of an iced latte, but resisted. I then gobbled half a pack of cashew nuts to get me through. Next I went to make myself a Chunky Monkey (a protein and fat filled shake from Joe Wick’s Lean in 15 newest recipe book) but realise all of the protein powders I own have sucralose in – one of the alternative names given to sugar. (See my last post for a full list of alternative names for sugar) So I held off making that, despite the fact it’s lovely, and tastes like melted Snickers bar. Here’s the recipe if you’re interested.

Then, as I went to help myself to some more cooked chicken breast, I thought I’d practise what I preach and read the ingredients, expecting to see Chicken Breast, and that’s it.

HOW WRONG WAS I?!

The ingredients list for plain cooked chicken – chicken, brown sugar, water.

GREAT!

So on Day 1 I managed to fill my blood with sugar, completely unintentionally, defeating the entire object of detoxing my body.

I then continued my research on yes and no foods, only to discover cashew nuts are on the no list too – WHY ME GOD, WHY ME?!

So, there’s me all naïve thinking I’ll just eat meat and protein and nuts, and BOOM. Day 1, a complete and utter failure. Of course, in good old fashioned Carlie Style, I thought ‘well, what’s the point in starting today and gobbled up a protein bar (containing some form of sugar alternative which is on my ‘banned substances’ list) and went straight into Day 2 with a chocolate Sundae.

Yay me.

Guess who got the chicken?

Guess who got the chicken?

Now, my challenge for you – find someone with worse will power than me. If you succeed you’ll win a prize. Let me know in the comments!

Day 1 version 1.1 of the 30 Day Sugar Detox starts on Monday 4th July, and guys when I said I need your help I meant it.

And as for you Tesco, *flashes a middle finger* that’s for you and your healthy cooked chicken breast!

See you Monday detoxers!
